Yank

A to Z Challenge

Yank, yikes!  What a Combination.  Thinking the choices I made are not very encouraging to the month’s theme for this year’s A to Z Challenge.  Yank takes me a bit to get to the actual word and not the short, mostly derogatory term for Yankee.  Reading all those romances back in the day might have a bit to do with that mindset of mine.  Then the other vision yank invokes is the tugging of my hair into braids so much that I taught myself how to braid my own hair in self defense. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I’ve posted that before also.

It’s just that some memories are so vivid, they pop up and overshadow the ones you’re trying to bring into focus.  Maybe that wouldn’t happen so much if I could find another Y word, one like yikes, young, yesterday.  Now, out of those three, yikes immediately jumps out as the least used topic for discussion or writing.

Yikes implies just as much emotion as Yank does in a different way.  Could be surprise?  I’m checking my memories for any time I might have used that particular word.  Criminy,oh, oh, just looked that up.  Mild oath or express surprise.  Hmmm.  Perhaps that’s why I don’t have much memories of using such words.  Mild oath conjures up memories of my father with his raised eye brow or my mother’s exasperated look.

Mind, Mom didn’t mind the use of some words.  Just the blatant cuss words.  My dad was a bit older than my mom and thus from a generation with stricter ideas of what a lady is.  Yep.
